My design work is inspired by traditional print design as well as the most contemporary approaches. Of course, I always attempt to design in such a way that supports what is being presented rather than let style trump substance. Stylistically speaking, I am strongly influenced by mid-20th-century typography as well as the fine typography seen 200 years ago.

Client: Talstone Group

Role: Designer (Creative Director: DJ Smith, Talstone Group)

Talstone Group developed it's very own project management system for monitoring and maintaining where various projects were. We at Talstone wanted to give it a clever name, so "WhooDoo" was developed, as it played on the idea of being able to see who was doing what at a given time. Plus, it sounds like "Voo Doo," or black magic. Creative voodoo happening!

Since it was in-house and we were likely to be the only ones to see it, a logo wasn't really on the agenda. However, I had some downtime and volunteered to create a logo for it. With the "whoo" in the name, everyone in the firm agreed that an owl was an obvious candidate for a mascot. I drew the owl with a contemporary approach that was both cartoonish and serious at the same time. The colors of the argyle sweater vest tie in with the different colors of the site, as each section displays a different colored background.
