My design work is inspired by traditional print design as well as the most contemporary approaches. Of course, I always attempt to design in such a way that supports what is being presented rather than let style trump substance. Stylistically speaking, I am strongly influenced by mid-20th-century typography as well as the fine typography seen 200 years ago.

Woodson Chapel Youth Group Logo

Client: Woodson Chapel Church of Christ

Role: Designer (Creative Director: DJ Smith, Talstone Group)

The youth minister at the Church of Christ at Woodson Chapel was friends with my creative director, and he decided the youth group needed a new logo. While the name "Woodson Chapel Youth Group" is somewhat generic, the initials have a cool ring to them. Since it sounds like radio call letters, the creative director wanted me to do something with a radio concept. So I drew a nifty radio tower, complete with old-school lightning bolts. It has something of a retro 1950s feel but with a more modern color scheme. (The gray color is actually metallic silver.)

The logo has been applied in a variety of places, from stickers to the youth group's website to custom-made patches sewn on backpacks. It was a hit with everybody.
