My design work is inspired by traditional print design as well as the most contemporary approaches. Of course, I always attempt to design in such a way that supports what is being presented rather than let style trump substance. Stylistically speaking, I am strongly influenced by mid-20th-century typography as well as the fine typography seen 200 years ago.

The Imaging Specialists Brochure

Client: Premiere Radiology

Role: Designer (Creative Director: DJ Smith, Talstone Group)

The Imaging Specialists is a teleradiology firm that focuses on orthopaedic, neurological, cardiac/vascular, and body subspecialties. They allow physicians to have a wide range of radiological images interpreted quickly, dependably, and after-hours.

My directive was two-fold: outline the wide range of modalities and subspecialties covered by The Imaging Specialists, and present them as a capable, competent firm for working with large medical facilities.

The solution was to take black-and-white radiological images, add dramatic color, and use an unusual binding method to increase the visibility of the piece. The cover is printed with two hits of metallic ink as well as varnish, embossing, and a die-cut window that allow the reader to see the printed vellum beneath, which is saturated with metallic ink on one side, allowing for an interesting photo-negative effect, which calls to mind the negative images produced by X-ray imaging.
